Open vSwitch and Agile OVS
John Hurley
Open vSwitch (OVS) is an open-source virtual switch designed for deployment in multi-server environments and as a network back-end for cloud management software such as OpenStack. It can serve as a standalone software defined networking (SDN) switch or, as with Netronome’s Agilio products, form the control plane for a SmartNIC. This lab provides an overview of the architecture of OVS and how it is accelerated with Agilio SmartNICs. The participants got a hands on experience with Agilio OVS, adding rules via the CLI to forward packets between VMs and networks. They also experimented with recent OVS additions such as Connection Tracking that is supported in the Agilio OVS Firewall software.
